Colorado cobblestone is a colorful, irregularly shaped rock that's quarried from the Colorado River. It's also known as Colorado River Rock.
Appearance:
- A blend of colors including gray, red, blue-gray, salt & pepper, and brown
- Rounded, oval, square, or rectangular with rounded, irregular edges
Uses:
- Accent stones
- Dry creek beds
- Lining pond banks
- Paving roads
- Decorating buildings, walls, and fireplace hearths
Size:
- Flats, ovals, veneer, and boulders ranging from 1.5” to 18”
- Baskets averaging about 1.75 tons each
Installation: set in sand or similar material and bound together with mortar.
History:
- Cobblestones were commonly used in Europe and the United States
- In the 1800s, most cobblestones arrived on ships from Europe as ballast
- In the mid-1800s, most of the city streets in Philadelphia were cobblestone
