Colorado cobblestone is a colorful, irregularly shaped rock that's quarried from the Colorado River. It's also known as Colorado River Rock. 
 
Appearance:
  • A blend of colors including gray, red, blue-gray, salt & pepper, and brown 
     
  • Rounded, oval, square, or rectangular with rounded, irregular edges 
     
Uses: 
  • Accent stones
  • Dry creek beds
  • Lining pond banks
  • Paving roads
  • Decorating buildings, walls, and fireplace hearths
Size: 
  • Flats, ovals, veneer, and boulders ranging from 1.5” to 18”
  • Baskets averaging about 1.75 tons each
Installation: set in sand or similar material and bound together with mortar. 
 
History: 
  • Cobblestones were commonly used in Europe and the United States
  • In the 1800s, most cobblestones arrived on ships from Europe as ballast
  • In the mid-1800s, most of the city streets in Philadelphia were cobblestone
